ESB International (ESBI) has won an €8.8 million contract to manage a major electricity generation and supply facility in Kosovo.
The company, a subsidiary company of the ESB , said it had beaten "stiff competition" from consortia based in the United States, Germany and Britain.
The contract for the management of the Kosovo electricity utility KEK, is sponsored by the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and is seen as a strategically important project for the development of the Kosovar economy.
The ESB chief executive, Mr Padraig McManus, said the contract adds to ESBI's recent successes and growing reputation in the Balkan region, where it has secured contracts in Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro.
ESBI will be supported by its subcontractors, the South African utility TSI/ESKOM and Vattenfall Europe.
