The ESB and South Africa's electricity company Eskom have signed a €4.5 million contract, it was announced today.
ESB International (ESBI) will provide engineering consultancy services in the construction of an additional 1,000 megawatts of generation capacity at the recently commissioned power plants in the Western Cape of South Africa.
The contract was signed at Eskom's headquarters in Johannesburg during the Enterprise Ireland Trade ission to South Africa.
ESBI already has a team of consultants in Johannesburg and Cape Town planning the project, which is due to be complete by the end of 2009 to ensure supply for the World Cup the following year.
