Madrid - Basque separatist group ETA claimed responsibility yesterday for a dozen bombings and shootings between May and July that marked an intensification of its violent campaign.
The attacks included the assassinations in July of a former civil governor in the Basque province of Guipuzcoa and of a ruling Popular Party councillor in the southern city of Malaga.
"The armed organisation assumes responsibility for the attacks carried out between May 9th and July 29th," the group said in a statement in Basque-language newspaper Egun Karia.
