Unemployment in the euro zone was 8.3 per cent in July, unchanged from a revised June level and up from 8 per cent a year earlier, reported EU statistics office Eurostat.
Previously, Eurostat had said June unemployment was 8.4 per cent.
Economists had forecast July unemployment would rise slightly to 8.4 per cent.
In the whole of the EU, unemployment in July was 7.7 per cent, unchanged from June and up from 7.3 per cent in July last year.
