RTE has announced the eight finalists for the Eurosong 1997 contest, which will decide Ireland's Eurovision entry

RTE has announced the eight finalists for the Eurosong 1997 contest, which will decide Ireland's Eurovision entry. The finalists chosen from 300 entries will compete in Waterford on March 9th. The winner will represent Ireland at the 42nd Eurovision Song Contest at The Point Theatre on May 3rd.

The eight performers are Gary O'Shaughnessy with Love and Understanding, Tommy Quinn with Good Life, Marc Roberts with Mysterious Woman, Miranda with I Am Here, Darren Holden with Suddenly, Maggie Toal with My Love, Helen Ui Dhunaird with Uaigneas and Michelle Costello with Never Far Away.
