British former world heavyweight champion Herbie Hide has been convicted of assaulting a civil servant in a nightclub.
Today's ruling by District Judge Patrick Heley at Norwich Magistrates Court stated that Hide must wear an electronic tag until June 28th and would have to stay indoors between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. every day during that period.
Hide was also ordered to pay £250 pounds sterling compensation and £329 pounds sterling costs.
Hide's lawyer, Graham Platt, said after the hearing that the boxer maintained his innocence and would be appealing his conviction.
Hide, who held the World Boxing Organisation version of the title, has not fought for nearly 21 months and is suspended by theBritish Boxing Board of Control's (BBBC) Southern Area Council after the late-night fracas in Norwich, eastern England, last May.
BBBC secretary Simon Block told the Press Association on Wednesday: "The fact of Mr Hide's conviction of a criminal offence makes it a matter ofconsideration by his area council under the board's disciplinary regulations."
The BBBC has set a date of Wednesday March 7th to hear the 29-year-old's case and it will also have to consider the unique situation ofwhether the fighter could box while tagged.
