A Shamrock Rovers and former underage international soccer star has been jailed for five years for armed robbery by Judge Elizabeth Dunne at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Darren Berrigan (21), of Croke Villas, Ballybough, pleaded guilty to the armed robbery of £4,773 from the Virgin Cinema, Parnell Street on February 25th, 2000.
He also pleaded guilty to robbing £15 and car keys from Mr Ciaran Howard of B & R Howard, Springgarden Street, and threatening to kill him on the same date.
Two other city men were jailed for four years in January for their roles in the crimes: Dean Dunne (19), of Canon Lillis Avenue and Gareth Lawrence (21), Clonmore Terrace. A fourth accomplice, Sean Cullen (19), of St Mary's Mansions is due for sentence on April 24 next.
Berrigan, Cullen and Dunne pleaded guilty to the Virgin armed robbery, and all four admitted robbing and threatening to kill Mr Howard.
