The death has taken place of a Sinn Féin councillor who made headlines by going against his party’s wishes and shaking Queen Elizabeth’s hand during her May visit.

Michael Browne, of Cashel Town Council, died on Sunday in Clonoulty, Co Tipperary, after a long battle with cancer. As mayor of Cashel, he represented the town during the Queen’s visit.
