A powerful explosion rocked the Palestinian intelligence headquarters on Saturday, killing one man and wounding six, including the intelligence chief, security officials said.
Gen. Tareq Abu Rajeb and his bodyguards were nearby when the blast went off in an elevator, the officials said.
The intelligence service used its own cars to drive the wounded to a hospital. Fellow agents fired in the air from the windows of the vehicles to clear the way.
The blast came at a time of growing tension between the Hamas government and the Palestinian security forces loyal to moderate President Mahmoud Abbas.
