Two men charged last week in connection with a large explosives find in Dundalk, Co Louth, were freed on bail by the Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday.
Mr Derek Brady (34), of Cedarwood Park, Dundalk, and Mr Kevin Murray (44), of Oakland Park, Dundalk, were each freed on £10,000 bail and remanded until May 5th.
Last week they were each charged with having 1,240lb of improvised explosive mixture. They were also accused of having improvised detonating fuse, a timer power-unit, an electrical detonator, two adapted beer kegs and two improvised booster tubes with intent to endanger life at Cuchulainn Terrace, Dundalk, on March 21st.
The two were also charged with having the explosive substances for an unlawful purpose on the same date.
Supt Michael Staunton, who opposed bail, said the two men were caught in possession of the explosive substances. He believed they would not stand trial if given bail.
The superintendent said neither men had previous convictions.
Both Mr Brady and Mr Murray said in evidence they would stand trial if given bail.
The court remanded the two men on £10,000 bail each and ordered them to report three times a week to the Garda in Dundalk.
