Given all the permutations, the new surveys of our jellyfish suggest that, at any rate, "their occurrence in particular areas is not as passive as once thought".

A hedgehog runs around in circles in the same spot in our garden for what seems like hours. He also wanders over the whole garden but can still be seen running in circles in certain spots.

The experts suggest that it might be the result of an ear infection.

A swallows' nest with five fledglings in our hen-shed fell to the floor and broke. We made a nest with a plastic can lined with sheep's wool, and nailed it to a post where the original nest had been. All seems well, with the adult swallows still feeding the fledglings.

The swallows may have been first-year breeders and not as adept at nest-building as older birds.

A short-eared owl landed on the roof of the bird table in my back garden and then slowly drew one of its yellow legs into its chest feathers. It then turned its head almost 360 degrees, surveying the garden. A flock of sparrows returned to a nearby bush, into which the owl dived, causing chaos. The owl reappeared, unsuccessful, and flew off.
