Football Association chairman Geoff Thompson has dismissed rumours that Sven-Goran Eriksson could soon walk out on his position as England manager.

There has been speculation about Eriksson's future since the recent resignations of FA chief executive Adam Crozier and assistant coach Steve McClaren.

Thompson told the Daily Express:"I spoke to Sven before I left for Copenhagen. I told him he has got my total commitment and that of the FA.

"We want him to stay and he was happy with that. He made it clear to me that he was carrying on and that events at the FA were not an issue with him.

"He has given me assurances that he wants to continue as coach to the England team, and we have given him assurances that we want him to continue.

"Sven raised with me the issue of a new assistant coach and I told him that he would have our full support on that.

"He said he wanted to go away and think about whether he should go for another part-time coach or think about a full-time appointment."
