There was a 0.5 per cent fall in prices paid for goods leaving Irish factories last month, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
The latest figures show that annual manufacturing prices were down 3.5 per cent in September due to a fall in prices for metals, chemicals and meat and dairy products.
The price index for export sales decreased by 0.6 per cent during the month while the index for home sales increased by 0.2 per cent during the month.. In the year there was a decrease in the price index for export sales of 4.1 per cent and a 1.4 per cent for home sales.
Prices for office machinery and computers fell by 1.7 per cent during September while ford products declined by 1 per cent. At the same time, prices for dairy products rose 1.9 per cent
During the year to the end of September prices paid for basic metals declined 38.2 per cent while prices for basic chemicals were down 10.2 per cent. In addition, the cost of meat and dairy products fell by 8.5 per cent and 5.7 per cent respectively.
There was a 12 per cent rise in the prices paid for tobacco products during the year, the figures show.
