Bernard O’Byrne’s position as chief executive of the FAI hangs in the balance today as the organisation’s directors meet to discuss an internal inquiry into his financial affairs.
This afternoon’s meeting will address a special report, drawn up by a four-man subcommittee at the request of FAI officials. The report is believed to focus on suggestions that O’Byrne misused an FAI credit card, an allegation the chief executive hotly disputes.
O’Byrne had previously attracted criticism from some quarters over the personal windfall of £250,000 he was due to collect if the eircom Park project, abandoned in March, had come to fruition.
No decision from today’s meeting is expected until this evening.
