The North's Fair Employment Commission has welcomed the coming into effect of the Fair Employment and Treatment (NI) Order 1998 as an important advance which will help to combat religious and political discrimination.
It will now be unlawful to practise political or religious discrimination in the provision of goods, facilities and services and in the sale or letting of premises or land. Employers can also focus recruitment on those who have not worked for some time without facing a possible challenge of indirect religious discrimination.
