Champion jockey Kieren Fallon and fellow rider John Egan are to face a Jockey Club disciplinary hearing over allegations made in a Sunday newspaper last month.
The Jockey Club said in a statement on its website on Wednesday: "Having studied all the material provided by the News of the World, the Jockey Club today informed the solicitor representing Kieren Fallon and John Egan that both jockeys are required to attend a disciplinary panel inquiry."
The hearing will seek to establish whether the two men acted "in a manner which was prejudicial to the integrity and good reputation" of horse racing.
No date has been set, although in letters to the two riders the Jockey Club has expressed its wish to deal with the matter as soon as possible.
Fallon was banned for 21 days on March 8th over a race at Lingfield near London where he appeared to ease down on a horse called Ballinger Ridge and was caught on the line.
But Wednesday's statement said: "The Security Department's investigation into the irregular betting patterns of the race at Lingfield in which Kieren Fallon finished second on Ballinger Ridge is on-going and is entirely separate to the disciplinary panel hearing into the News of the Worldarticles."
Fallon, 39, is due back in action at Kempton Park on Saturday having served his ban.
