Over 90 per cent of people consider family the most important thing in life, a survey revealed today.

Just a small minority of those questioned felt friends or financial security was paramount in their lives.

Meanwhile, almost 57 per cent of people confirmed they see their immediate family every day, with a quarter meeting up once a week.

Around 450 people on family website rollercoaster.ie took part in the survey which launched the first Family Show, to be staged in Dublin’s RDS next month.

The two-day event, which opens on Friday June 13th, will feature a host of activities for parents and children aged up to 16.

Organisers said that more importantly, the Family Show will be an opportunity for the family to spend the day together, taking in all they need to know on the a to z of family life.

“Irish families need more quality time together and more disposable income,” said a spokeswoman.

“When asked to cherry-pick something to make family life easier, a massive 36 per cent of respondents opted for more quality family time, while 30 per cent opted for higher disposable income as desirable to make family life easier.

“Families did not seem as concerned about the healthcare support or the amount of time they spend in traffic. Surprisingly, just 5 per cent opted for a better healthcare system and only 7 per cent opted for less daily travel.”

Organisers believe the event — which will feature a range of sporting, arts and interactive science games — will open parents’ and youngsters’ eyes to new and exciting opportunities.
