Colombia's Marxist rebels have called a two-month unilateral ceasefire, the first truce in more than a decade, as delicate peace talks begin in Cuba to try and end a half century of war.

The government of President Juan Manuel Santos has so far rejected any cessation of military operations until a final peace deal is signed with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc).

The guerrilla group said yesterday it would halt all offensive military operations and acts of sabotage against infrastructure beginning at midnight last night and running until January 20th. - (Reuters)
