A farmer was fined £650 at Ballaghaderreen District Court, Co Roscommon, for killing three salmon out of season.
Martin Dooney, Derrincarta Upper, Ballaghaderreen, was convicted on three summonses in relation to killing of salmon out of season at the river Curry, a tributary of the River Moy.
Mr Liam McHale, solicitor for the Fisheries Board, told Judge Michael Connellan that people living in the upper region of the Moy felt they had a God-given right to take fish from the river even when fish were spawning.
