The chairman of the Irish Farmers' Association in Co Galway, Barry Donnelly, has demanded that Galway County Council apologise for wrongly blaming farmers for the water crisis.

A statement by IFA headquarters last night claimed it has emerged that the water has been polluted by human sewage, rather than animal waste. "It was totally unfair for the finger of blame to be pointed at farmers."
