Over 7,000 farmers protested in Ennis today over agriculture cuts in the Budget.
IFA president Padraig Walshe told the rally that Budget cuts "are hitting the small people in the west of Ireland".
"Everybody accepts there had to be cuts, but the way the Government hit farmers in the 'Disadvantaged Areas' is totally unacceptable," said Mr Walshe.
The IFA president claimed that nearly 9,000 farmers would see their Disadvantaged Area payments cut by a quarter. In addition, farmers are also going to be affected by cutbacks to the Suckler Welfare Schemes.
The majority of farmers protesting today came from Mayo, Cork, Leitrim, Galway, Roscommon, Tipperary, Limerick, Kerry and Wexford.
According to the IFA, over 20,000 farmers have joined in protests around the country over the past month as anger over Budget cuts increases.
