A 19-year-old man was killed early yesterday when a car went out of control and hit a traffic island near Limerick. He was named by gardai as Mr Bernard Casey of Clonlong, Southill. No other vehicle was involved. The accident took place at Daly's Cross, on the main Limerick to Dublin road at around 1.15 a.m. Three other men were taken to Limerick Regional Hospital, where one underwent surgery.
Gardai are also investigating a possible hit-and-run near Ballyneety, Co Limerick, on Sunday at 9.25 p.m., when a man was struck by a car. The man was taken to hospital with fractures.
