A young father was today found dead on an open green in a Limerick housing estate today.

The 19-year-old, named locally as Jeffrey Hannon, was discovered close to his home in O'Malley Park.

A passer-by spotted his remains this morning at around 10.30 on grassland behind Galtee Drive near the Galvone Industrial Estate.

Gardai were alerted and they sealed off the area for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. State Pathologist Marie Cassidy was called in to carry out a post mortem examination.

It is believed Mr Hannon was last seen at around midnight and his family had spoken to him shortly beforehand.

He is understood to be the father of a one-year-old girl and had lived at Galtee Drive all of his life.

Investigating officers from Roxboro Road in Limerick appealed for anyone who was in area between 10am and 10.30am or who has any information that could help their inquiry to contact them.
