A British father drowned on holiday in the Canary Islands while his family looked on.
The 44 year old was dragged from the sea after going into the water at Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, at about 4pm yesterday.
His wife and children had to be taken away while efforts were made to revive him but he died at the scene, a source with voluntary emergency and rescue service Emerlan said.
The source described the man as a holidaymaker and said he had ignored a red flag warning not to go into the sea. – (PA)
