Gardai are investigating the shooting last night of a father and son in a house in west Dublin. The two men, aged 43 and 20, were treated in hospital for pellet wounds to the legs after four masked raiders, carrying two sawn-off shotguns between them, broke into the house on Melrose Estate, Clondalkin, at about 11.30 p.m. They made their getaway by car.
A neighbour raised the alarm and the men were taken to Tallaght and St James's Hospitals respectively for treatment. Their injuries were described as not life threatening.
Gardai were keeping a "very open mind" about the attack but a spokesman said it was not thought to be drugs-related.
The scene was being preserved early today pending an examination by Garda forensic experts.
