London - Coastguards yesterday warned of the dangers of the sea after a father and son drowned while surfing off Cornwall. The two holidaymakers were caught up in a rip tide while body boarding on Thursday evening in Holywell Bay near Newquay and were washed out to sea.
Two lifeboats, a coastguard rescue team and a Sea King helicopter went to their aid and both were pulled from the water.
They were flown to hospital but neither man could be revived.
They have not yet been identified, but are believed to be a father and son, aged 50 and 21, and who were from Stoke-on-Trent. It is understood they were on holiday in Cornwall, staying at a local campsite, with other family members.
