Sir Alex Ferguson appears to ended any hopes England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson had of keeping Steve McClaren on in a coaching role beyond this season.
Eriksson has been delighted with the coaching contribution of United number two McClaren and Leicester boss Peter Taylor since he took charge.
United's agreement with the Football Association for McClaren's services ended with this week's World Cup qualifier in Albania.
However, FA chief executive Adam Crozier plans talks with United chief executive Peter Kenyon with a view to extending the agreement.
But an emphatic Ferguson seemed to rule out any possibility of an extension today, insisting: "No, the agreement with England is that it finishes at the end of the season."
Asked in an interview on Sky Sports.com TV if he saw that situation changing, Ferguson replied: "No".
Steve McClaren had insisted that he must put club before country.
McClaren accepts the fact that his first loyalty is to Manchester United and he was dependant upon Ferguson allowing him to spend more time away from Old Trafford.
