Sinn Féin's Martin Ferris who was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving last month has been cleared, the party confirmed today.
Mr Ferris said he was relieved that a urine sample had proved he was under the limit when he was stopped by gardaí.
The Kerry North TD, who had maintained his innocence, had consumed three alcoholic drinks before he was stopped at a random checkpoint early on April 22nd near his home in the village of Ardfert.
He failed two breathalyser tests at the scene before been taken to Tralee Garda Station where a doctor took a urine sample.
"Obviously I am greatly relieved that the results of my urine test have shown that I was under the limit when I was stopped by gardaí in Ardfert," he said.
"However, I still regret what happened and if I was in that position again tomorrow I would not get behind the wheel of my car."
At the time Mr Ferris said he was embarrassed and disappointed at his arrest.
He said he had drunk a glass of red wine during dinner at around 7pm and had two pints of alcohol later on.
