The Swansea Cork Ferries' MV City of Cork, which had been under a detention order in Wales during the past week, will resume scheduled services tonight, sailing from Swansea to Cork. Surveyors from the Irish Department of the Marine and the UK-based Maritime Coastguard Agency carried out safety drills on the vessel in Cork last week but found the Greek engine-room crew did not meet required standards.
The vessel was allowed to sail to Swansea where the crew underwent training for the past number of days. Yesterday the Irish and British maritime authorities said the vessel was passed fit to travel.
Swansea Cork Ferries is to sue the owners of the vessel, Helenic Mediterranean Lines for losses sustained during the period of detention.
The Greek crew was supplied by the owners and according to the ferry company should have been trained to meet safety requirements. The next scheduled sailing from Cork will be tomorrow at 9 p.m. from Ringaskiddy.
