Mayo Fianna Fáil county councillors are to meet the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, tomorrow to discuss their dissatisfaction with the setting up of a special committee to oversee the reorganisation of the party in Mayo.
The committee was set up earlier this month by party headquarters following fall-out from the dissolution of the Mícheál Ó Móráin cumann in Castlebar. Several members of the cumann retain strong links with the former party TD, Beverley Flynn.
Known as the Organisational Change Committee, it will have a short-term time span and will implement changes in the party structure across the county, according to a party spokesperson.
Included in the changes is a reduction in the number of cumainn from 261 to tally with the 180 polling stations across the county.
Some councillors are unhappy with the make-up of the committee, claiming there is only one councillor included, Achill-based Michael MacNamara, who was first elected at the last local elections.
They also have concerns over the geographical spread of the other party activists on the committee, citing a lack of representation from the Killala area.
The committee is to be chaired by Gerard Collins, former party general secretary, TD, minister and MEP and current vice-president of the party.
The meeting with the Taoiseach is scheduled for 4.40pm. Other issues will also be discussed.
