Election tactics:Fine Gael yesterday played down suggestions of an unravelling of its electoral strategy in Cork East after supporters of Senator Paul Bradford called for him to be allowed canvass in the southern end of the four-seat constituency in an attempt to secure a second seat for the party.
Mr Bradford, from Mourneabbey, near Mallow, and outgoing TD David Stanton, from Midleton, had divided the constituency between them, with Mr Bradford getting Mallow and Fermoy electoral areas to canvass and Mr Stanton getting to canvass Midleton electoral area.
Now, according to Mr Bradford's supporters, more than 100 Fine Gael activists have called for the lifting of the arrangement. FG director of elections Cllr Colm Burke said: "We have a carefully managed campaign which I'm satisfied will win us two seats if people adhere to the agreement."
