Fine Gael last night demanded that the Taoiseach ask all relevant Government Ministers to make a statement on the allocation of stockbroking contracts in the period 1987-1992.
The party says information should be given on:
The procedures for tendering for this business; whether State company boards and supervising Ministers were consulted; and who approved the procedures and decisions.
On what criteria were various bids for the work evaluated? Were all stockbrokers allowed to bid for the work and, if not, how were the bidders selected?
How was the price for the business evaluated? Was it a marketbased fee? What procedures were in place to ensure that companies were not overpaid for this business?
What steps were taken by the supervising Ministers at the time to guarantee that the full procedures would be followed in allocating this business?
Fine Gael said that any Ministers involved, who were currently serving in Government regardless of present portfolio, should make personal statements.
