Darren Fichardt beat fellow South African James Kingston at the first hole of a sudden death play-off to win the Qatar Masters in Doha today.
The pair had tied on the 13 under par mark of 275 after Kingston failed with a 10-foot birdie putt on the long 18th and when they returned to the same hole he could only par again, whereas Fichardt was on in two and two-putted for birdie.
It is Fichardt's second European tour win.
Irish Ryder Cup hero Paul McGinley, diagnosed with pneumonia on Monday, finished third on 11 under after a final round five-under-par 67.
Pre-tournament favourite Padraig Harrington left Doha with a smile on his face despite failing to stamp himself on the competition.
Harrington birdied seven of his last nine holes for an inward 29 and the lowest round of the week, a seven under par 65.
But having scored a 76 during the morning third round it was still only good enough for a share of 11th place.
Damien McGrane was one over for his round and one over for the tournament while Dubliner Peter Lawrie, who recorded a disappointing 79 in his third round, finished seven over after a 73 today.
