Irish people made 13 per cent more overseas trips in October than during the same period last year, CSO figures said today.
The data also showed that foreigners paid 664,200 visits to the country compared to 644,500 in October 2006. Total inward tourist traffic for 2007 up to the the end of October has already reached almost seven million people.
Some 670,100 people travelled outside the country during the 10th month compared to 591,700 in 2006.
UK residents accounted for 52 per cent of all visits to Ireland in October followed by the US and Canada at 12 per cent.
Trips by UK residents increased by 7,100 or 2 per cent to 348,600, while the number of visiting citizens of other European countries rose by 10,900 to 200,500.
Visits to Ireland by US and Canadian tourists and businesspeople increased by 1,100 to 87,400 during October.
The monthly figures were compiled by CSO surveys conducted at Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Knock and Kerry airports as well as Rosslare, Ringaskiddy, Dún Laoghaire and Dublin ports.
