A FILE was being prepared by gardai at Shannon yesterday for the Director of Public Prosecutions on a passenger removed from an Aer Lingus flight to New York on Sunday.

Gardai were called after the captain of the aircraft refused to take off with the young man, who was alleged to have attacked a male cabin crew member, on board. The Airbus, with 340 passengers, had not left the ground when the altercation occurred. The passenger was escorted off the aircraft.

A spokesman for Aer Lingus said: "We do not tolerate any misbehaviour on flights. Our first priority is the safety of our passengers and crew. We will not tolerate people disrupting the other passengers or the cabin crew, for this can be dangerous and very unpleasant."

It was said that the duty manager who had come on board received facial injuries. The passenger returned home to Dublin.
