Steve Finnan was forced to pull out of the Republic of Ireland international friendly against Scotland at Hampden Park tonight after failing to overcome a bout of flu.
Manager Brian Kerr delayed naming his side until one hour before the match in the hope that Finnan may recover in time. But the Fulham defender left the team hotel at lunch-time to go home.
Scotland are also denied the presence of an influential defender with Steven Pressley withdrawing due to illness. The Hearts captain was unwell for several days and was sent home following advice from medical staff.
Like Kerr, Scotland manager Bertie Vogts will delay naming his side until just before kick-off.
