The family of murdered solicitor Mr Pat Finucane is seeking clarity over reports that a formal inquiry into the killing is to be established.

It was reported yesterday that Judge Peter Cory has recommended to the British government that inquiries in to the murders of Mr Finucane, Mr Billy Wright, Ms Rosemary Nelson and Mr Robert Hamill be established. It was also thought that an inquiry into the murders of Lord Justice Gibson and his wife is also recommended to the Irish Government.

All the cases investigated by Judge Cory involve alleged collusion involving paramilitaries and either the RUC or the Garda. He was asked to examine the merits of all these cases following the Weston Park talks in summer 2001. He completed his investigations in October.
