New Delhi - Sixteen people were killed and 42 injured yesterday when fire erupted after a chemical explosion in a storehouse in the narrow by-lanes of Delhi's old quarters, hospital officials said.
It was feared the death toll would mount because nearly half of the injured had suffered severe burns, doctors at the Lok Nayak Jaiprakash hospital said. Doctors said almost half the victims had suffered more than 80 per cent burns and their chances of survival were poor.
