A crewman has been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after fire started on a large French fish-processing ship off the Galway coast.
The Scombrusis now at anchor in Galway Bay and firefighters from Galway have been brought aboard to deal with the blaze. The crew of 26 has stayed on the vessel.
A Coast Guard spokesman said the ship is in no danger of sinking, and there have been no reports of pollution from the vessel.
The incident was reported to the Coast Guard shortly after 2 a.m. when the ship was about 70 miles offshore.

A 10.30 a.m. a rescue helicopter airlifted the injured crewman off the ship and brought him to University College Hospital Galway.
