An elderly man suffered serious burns in a house fire in Dublin.
Gardaí are believed to have spotted the blaze at a block of flats at St Mary's Place, Cabra, just before midnight and rescued the man from the building.
The pensioner was taken to the Mater Hospital suffering from serious burns, with a number of gardaí also treated for smoke inhalation.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way, although it is understood it started accidentally.
Meanwhile, five people were taken to hospital in Galway suffering from smoke inhalation following a blaze in a city centre apartment block.
