The Yeats Society in Sligo has appointed its first full-time chief executive.
Stella Mew, who has been associated with the Yeats Summer School since 1965, takes over the post this week, operating from an office in the Yeats memorial building in Sligo town.
Ms Mew, a former head of Rathdown school in Glenageary,Co Dublin, told The Irish Times yesterday she hoped to make available to postgraduate and other students the society's archive of lectures, given to the school since its foundation in 1960.
"We hope to develop a series of lectures and poetry readings dealing with the poet and the broad Yeats family," she added.
This year's summer school, held earlier this month, featured the launch of a vast archive of material recorded over the years and converted into digital format. It was funded by the Heritage Council.
