An Irish registered, Spanish fishing trawler has been detained off the south-west coast of Cork, a Navy Services spokesman said this evening.
The trawler is suspected of over-fishing its monthly hack quota and under-recording its catch, Mr Hugh Tully, spokesman for the Navy Services told ireland.com.
The vessel, Bylgja, was stopped by the Navy vessel, the LE Ciara, about 20 miles south-west of the Fastnet rock off the Cork coast at about 6 p.m.
The ship was escorted to Castletownbere where it was handed over to Gardai.
