Police in Castlereagh have arrested five youths following an overnight attack in which a 17 year-old boy was seriously injured.
The attack occured in the Saintfield Road in Carryduff at around 12.45 this morning.
The victim was taken to intensive care unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police arrested the youths, whom they describe as being in their late teens, in the Primrose Hill area. An appeal has been made by police for witnesses to come forward.
Elsewhere, police in Carrickfergus are investigating a serious assault on a 55 yr old man in the town this morning. The attack happened in the man's home between 5am and 6am in the Burleighway area when a number of men entered the house.
The victim sustained a number of serious face and eye injuries.
The assailants made off in a blue Citroen car. The vehicle was later found burned out on the Woodburn Rd.
Police have called on anyone who may have witnessed the attack or any suspicious activity in the area to contact them at Carrickfergus police station.
