Gardaí have arrested five men following a shooting in Dublin last night.
A man was shot in the stomach in Cherry Orchard, west Dublin, at about 10.15pm yesterday.
Gardaí later stopped two cars and arrested five people. The men, all reportedly known to gardaí, are being held at Garda stations in Lucan, Clondalkin, Ballyfermot and Ronanstown.
The victim was taken to St James's hospital, where his situation is described as serious but stable.
A car was found burnt close to the scene of the shooting.
The incident is thought to be related to a drug-feud in the Drimnagh-Crumlin area of Dublin.
Sinn Féin TD Arthur Morgan has called for more gardaí on foot and on bicycles in areas where criminal gangs are involved in such feuds.
“The fact that these gangs operate day or night is a sign that they have no fear of the gardaí or of being caught. This is a symptom of a shortage of gardaí on the beat in these communities," Mr Morgan said.
“Everybody should have the right to feel safe in their own homes without the fear of violence," he added.
