Gardaí made five arrests today following an attack on a taxi driver in Dublin city centre early this morning.
A taxi was hailed in Ballybrack, Co Dublin, by two men who asked to be taken to Amiens Street.
The passengers attacked the driver when the vehicle was at the IFSC at about 1.35am and drove off in the vehicle.
Gardaí were alerted, and the taxi driver, who was said to be in a very distressed state, was taken to the Mater hospital with minor injuries.
In a follow-up operation, the taxi was later stopped by gardaí in Finglas, and five people were arrested - a 16- and 17-year-old, two 18-year-olds, and a 21-year-old. All five were were detained at Finglas Garda station and have since been released.
The two 18-year-olds and 21-year-old are due in Blanchardstown court on October 8th, charged in connection with the investigation, which is being conducted by gardaí in Store Street.
Two of those due in court are charged with unauthorised taking of a vehicle, while the third is charged with hijacking a vehicle.
The other two teenagers will be dealt with under the juvenile liaison scheme.
