FIVE people were killed in traffic accidents over the weekend, four of them on Saturday.

Ms Imelda O'Toole (50), from Rhode, Co Offaly, was killed when she was struck by a car while walking to Mass in Rhode, at about 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Mr Martin Nation (2), Blackrock Road, Cork, died after being in a single vehicle accident at Raffeen, on the Carrigaline Ringaskiddy road, at 12.15 p.m. on Saturday.

Ms Samantha Quaid (26), Kileehan, Castlebridge, Co Wexford, died after the car she was driving collided with a van at McQuillan Cross, Wexford, at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Mr Andrew O'Shea (25), of River Forest, Leixlip, Co Kildare, died when his car went out of control and hit a tree at Navan Road, Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, at 3.15 a.m. on Saturday.

The woman who died when the car driven by her husband was in a collision with another car at Gormanston, Co Meath, at 10.10 p.m. on Friday night has been named at Mrs Elizabeth Murphy (61), of Delvin Road, Gormanston.

Meanwhile, an elderly Co Wicklow woman was drowned when she fell into the sea while out walking on Saturday. Ms Ethel Doyle (79), Wexford Road, Arklow, is believed to have slipped on rocks and fallen from a cliff. Her body was recovered from North Beach.
