Five people have appeared in court charged in connection with the seizure of €1.2 million worth of illegal drugs in Dublin earlier this week.

Patrick Rolston (26), and his co-accused Janice McCarthy (21) both from Midleton in Co Cork were charged with possession with intent for sale or supply of cocaine valued at €200,000.

A solicitor, Mr Jim Sheridan, told Kilmainham District Court that Ms Janice McCarthy with an address at Carrigogna, Middleton, Co Cork, was "besotted" with Mr Rolston.

Mr Sheridan said: "She was besotted by Mr Rolston. She was an innocent party. She went for a drive in the car and suddenly found herself in Dublin."

A Garda said the pair were arrested in Ballyfermot Garda station and claimed she was much less involved.

She was remanded in custody with consent to her own bail of €7,500 and a surety of €15,000, one third in cash, until June 23rd at Kilmainham District Court.

The Garda requested Miss McCarthy's passport to be handed over as they were "serious charges" and she report daily at Middleton Garda station.

Rolston was remanded to appear in Cloverhill District Court on June 24th, with bail of €60,000 and independent surety of €75,000, one third in cash.

Three others then appeared in relation to an alleged seizure of drugs worth over €1 million.

Mr Albert O'Reilly, with an address in Dublin's Clondalkin, Ms Natalie Shaw (21) of St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, Mr Barry Jones (32) of Ludworth, England, were charged with possession and supply of drugs.

Garda Darragh O'Toole said they believed they were living in the Alicante region of Spain and the addresses they had given were out of date.

Mr O'Reilly and Mr Jones were remanded to appear on June 24th in Cloverhill District Court.  Ms Shaw is to appear on June 23rd at Kilmainham District Court.
