Five men arrested by gardaí investigating dissident republican activity and organised crime in Cork were still in custody last night.
The men – three aged in their 40s, one in his 20s and one in his 50s – were taken into custody following a series of searches at several properties in Cork city.
The searches were carried out at 7am by members of the special detective unit assisted by the regional support unit.
The men are being detained under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939, at Mayfield, Gurranebraher and Togher Garda stations.
