As Israeli soldiers and Palestinian gunmen fought near the border withEgypt today, a five-year-old girl was shot in the leg outside her school.
In Abasan village in Khan Younis governorate, 50 Palestinian nursery school children had a narrow escape when they came under fire fromthe direction of Israeli-controlled territory. But five-year-oldFatima Abu Salah took a bullet through the thigh.
The Israeli army said the crossfire began after grenades were thrown at the Rafah border position where Israel controls security at the crossing between Egypt and the mostly Palestinian-ruled Gaza Strip.
Gunfire also erupted near the city of Khan Younis.
A Palestinian security source said the Israeli aggression wascontinuing for no reason.
Palestinians say the gunfight at Rafah flared after Israeli armybulldozers razed a Palestinian police post, gas station and olive grove near the border.
