A POLISH chef who passed pellets of cocaine valued at almost €66,000 in Beaumont Hospital has been given a five-year sentence by Judge Patricia Ryan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Krysztof Kuczkowiak (31) claimed the €2,000 he was to get for transporting 95 cocaine capsules to Ireland in his stomach was for his mother’s medical treatment at home.

The former soldier told gardaí he was to make a phone call when he arrived at Dublin airport and to meet the person who would take the drugs from him.

Garda Keith Taylor said gardaí brought Kuczkowiak to Beaumont Hospital after cocaine was detected in his urine following a drugs search by Customs officers who stopped him at Dublin airport.

A hospital X-ray showed “abdominal abnormalities” and Kuczkowiak passed the 95 pellets overnight before he was taken to Santry Garda station.

Kuczkowiak pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine worth €65,675 on November 14th, 2007. Defence counsel asked Judge Ryan to “bear in mind” that Kuczkowiak had no previous convictions.
